The club was formed in 1875 when the tradesmen of Esher Cricket Club split from the gentlemen of that club and moved to the common at West End. Cricket has been played on the Green continuously since then, apart from a short break, during the Second World War when the common was dug up for cultivation. Something our Groundsman is convinced that several of our players are still trying to do today! We run two Saturday League teams in the Fullers Brewery League in addition to a Sunday social team.

The Junior Section started in 2009 and has grown significantly with over 100 boys and girls from ages 6 to 14 regularly attending the Friday night coaching sessions on the Green. In addition we run an advanced training session on a Monday night.  We now operate with several colts age group teams who were in a competitive league played on a Sunday morning.

In 2018 we were pleased to introduce cricket for girls. Girls cricket has increased in popularity and we aim to provide an opportunity for girls to play competitive cricket in a supportive and enjoyable environment.Training will take place on a Friday evening and we are welcoming new and existing members between the ages of 12 and 14.

For more information about the colts section click here.

Matches

U9, U10, U11 and U12 all compete in the highly competitive West Surrey Youth T20 League. Most matches are played on a Sunday, participating players meeting at 9:30am for a 10am start. We have a policy of equal opportunities, with every player getting to bat, bowl and field. We aim to make sure that every junior cricketer within each of these age groups plays the same number of matches within a season. The Lead Coach or Age Group Manager will ask for availability each week and select a team from this list.

Winter Nets

A number of junior cricketers within the match playing age groups are invited to winter nets at Cleeves School, Weybridge, for nine weeks of indoor training on a Friday evening from February to April. We regret that due to space restrictions we can only select certain cricketers from each age group.

How do I join?

If you would like to sign up from the start of the season, simply email the juniorcharmain@weecc.co.uk and then proceed to the club magement site  https://teamo.chat/club/register/weecc and buy the appropriate membership option. If the season has already commenced, please email the Junior Chairman or Co-ordinator to make sure that there is still a space available in the appropriate age group for your child.

What kit do I need?

Junior cricketers may wear any appropriate sportswear for training sessions, but are required to wear West End Esher kit for matches and festivals. A selection of West End Esher branded cricket wear is available to purchase from our kit supplier “A Sporting Choice” which can be found in Hersham high street. It is not necessary for players to purchase equipment as we have kit bags for all age groups. However, this is limited and we would encourage players to purchase their own bat. The younger age groups (U6-U9) play pairs cricket with a tennis, wind or incrediball (soft ball) so there is no need to purchase, helmet, gloves or pads. The older age groups (U10-U12) play with a hard ball so must at the very least own a box. Don't forget to bring water, sun cream and a hat for the hotter days!

Can I leave my children for the duration of the session?

Parents cannot leave children in the U6-U10 age groups due to the fact that there are roads on all sides of the green. Parents may ask another parent to keep an eye on their child but they must inform the lead coach of the age group of this agreement. Parents of the U11 age group and upwards may leave the premises, but MUST return on time without fail to sign their children out. Parents who continually fail to do this will be subject to a penalty system.

What is the cost?

Subscription of £135 for the first child followed by £95 for siblings,  payment is made through the club management Teamo site, and includes a years membership of the West End Sports and Social Club for the whole family.

Colts Academy

Training and Matches

Any junior cricketer who is in the U13-U15 boys age group becomes part of the West End Esher Academy. This works as a transition between junior and senior cricket, with the aim of progressing cricketers from the Academy into the adult senior sides. To create a smooth changeover, with place a number of academy players in the Sunday Friendly XI, who play 40/40 cricket. The academy players are supported by lead members of the senior sides, with the team focusing on the development of the academy players rather than winning. Academy players still train separately on a Monday night from the senior sides for safety reasons. Girls in the equivalent age groups may become part of the Academy if their lead coach feels that they are able enough to do so.

Dates for training sessions will be confirmed shortly.
